Q:  Estimated Price Tag for Alcohol I Drug Abuse in your Company?

A:  Recent data by the U.S. Department of Justice shows that each employee abusing drugs and or alcohol costs employers $ 10,000 - $ 12,000 annually and that 10-23% of the workforce may have a drug and/or alcohol problem.

Today, drug and alcohol abuse is a serious problem in the workplace. A recent survey of drug users shows;
•  75% admitted using illegal drugs while working
•  64% acknowledged that their drug use impeded their work performance
•  44% stated that they had a drug related work accident, and
•  18% reported that they had stolen from their employer to support their drug addiction

Q.  Is the Testing Process Accurate?

A. Yes, when done properly. It is important for a company to have trained and certified technicians who are qualified to conduct drug and alcohol testing. Each technician should follow consistent D.O.T. protocol when administering a drug or alcohol test for an employee. It is important for a company to have a two (2) step testing process. When drug testing, the first step of the analysis is the initial screening process or the immunoassay testing. If the initial test shows a Positive, the specimen would then be forwarded to confirmation testing. Generally, this process is a Chromatography technique type testing such as Gas Chromatography / Mass Spectrometry (GCI MS). This process is 100% scientifically accurate and must match like a fingerprint to the make-up the illegal drug. Only it both initial and confirmation tests show positive would the results be considered as Positive.
